Good reel once you adapt, July 11, 2007 By Mario "MVG" (Texas) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This a very smooth reel, with very good quality materialas...., the thing you have to consider is that the reel is very small, and you have to adpat to it if you are changing reels with diferent lures....
I have several curados and calais, and it is considerably more smaller and lighter. So it feels wierd at first when changing reels. If you use it for a while it has a very smooth cast.
(Of cousrse the other solution is to change all the reels, which in time I'll do)
So just be pacient, it's a very nice reel.
stiff release, May 30, 2012 By This review is from: Abu Garcia REVO STX Series Reel (Sports) I was hoping that this would be a step-up from my Black Max, which I have had for years and still use. The reel is very nice and solid. Whatever you do, make sure that you have plenty of break on this before making your first cast (it will backlash severely, which is true of any similar reel). Once set, it does cast very long. However, I found the release button to be very stiff, requiring more force than I am use to applying. I took it back (bought locally), and it was not a defect in that all of the STX reels felt the same. Ended up getting another spinning reel.

Once I got it dialed in, it is now my go to reel for all sorts of conditions. I will buy another when the funds are available.
